Interview

  • If you have to pick one thing that everyone else should absolutely know about you, what would it be?
I think the most important thing to know about me is that I am not as scary as I look. I'm a very firm person, and quick to make sure a situation is orderly, but I'm extremely affable and eager to be friends up front.
  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time?
My hobbies are going to the museum, reading, and playing video games. I also enjoy the gym immensely, and go frequently throughout the week.
  • How do you go that ‘extra mile' in your life?
I communicate. As someone in generally superior positions and generally a Dominant person overall, I find that by communicating I can move things along much quicker than just trying to force things along. People are far more grateful if you make that effort to discuss where things currently lay instead of waiting for some kind of divined augury to tell them what I'm thinking.
  • What do you do for fun?
For fun, I read, visit museums, work on personal projects, and other things that are far too close to my scholarship to let me be comfortable, but I still nonetheless feel like these are all fun.
  • Tell us what you consider to be your greatest life experience.
Recently, the 20th of December, 2018, a bus I was on crashed into a cow. I was thrown partway down the aisle, getting hurt pretty bad. Thanks to a lot of upper body workouts, I caught myself before I snapped my neck by tumbling down the aisle. Furthermore, the bus driver's fast thinking kept our bus from going into a ravine. So, in spite of my scars and bruises, not dying is pretty much my best experience so far in life.
  • What makes you stand out from the crowd?
I cannot emphasize enough how I stick out in a crowd. I can carry a boisterous conversation and have everyone hanging on my every word, or I could be sitting on the couch by myself chilling and have a parade of people come by to ask me if I'm okay. It's a mixture of size and confidence that makes me a strange kind of beacon.
  • What are your greatest personal traits?
I'm a fantastic mentor/trainer/teacher, and have been in such a capacity in my life for years. I've won scholarships, awards, and other accolades for such skills, and the fact that I can teach people from ages 18 to 108 about a variety of topics, from journalism to history, has been incredibly rewarding. Folks just like listening to me and doing what I say, I guess.
  • What is your ‘niche’?
I'm a gentle giant that happens to be well-educated and fairly well-engaged in both the political and cultural.
  • How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or you are more of a homebody?
I travel for conferences, mentoring, journalism, and other reasons, so I would rather just stay close to home if I can help it unless someone is taking me on an adventure somewhere or to some whirlwind trip to New York.
  • What kind of diet and fitness regiment do you follow?
I'm currently on a recomposition plan, with low carbs, high protein diet, and gym on a 7 on, 2 off, 5 on, 2 off, repeat schedule. Down 30 pounds, lean mass up quite a bit, strength up a lot. As of this interview I've got 5 more weeks on this plan.
  • What’s your lifestyle? What makes you who you are?
Reading, exercise, study, and work on major projects in my life, these are all lifestyle activities that keep me motivated and form the basis for my current life as it is.
  • What would you like your followers to know about you that is unique and even a bit personal?
Several United States Senators and a couple of former big city mayors know me on a first-name basis, but the owner of the corner store by me forgets who I am every single time.
  • If you and I were on the beach having some wine and great food, what would you tell me about yourself.
I've had a pretty interesting life, rough at times, but I'm still pretty focused on the well-being of myself and those around me. It doesn't matter how much I'm shouldering at the time, I'll help when I can, how I can, to the best of my ability.
  • What should others absolutely know about you?
    I have clumsily wide feet.
  • What do you enjoy most about yourself?
In spite of my fairly Dominant nature, I can be extremely gentle and caring to those who seek me out for friendship and companionship. I'll protect you, give you hugs in large doses when you need them, hold you on the couch if a movie is too scary, but I will also keep jerks from attempting to harm or insult you for no reason.
  • Name 5 things that you can’t live without.
As an historian, I can't live without my audio recorder, my camera, my research membership to the National Archives, my connections at the Smithsonian, or my large stack of worn out notebooks.
